I’m an Influential Blogger?

18 July 2008 20 Comments

I have a bit of an OC complex, as you may have noticed by now, and I keep an eye out for this blog’s statistics.

“Obsessed” is an understatement, really.

This morning, when I noticed that my Technorati authority had gone up a few points, I immediately clicked the widget to see what made it so. I was in for a big surprise.

Apparently, Kat S., a good online friend from my LJ days, found this website useful enough to nominate me one of the Top Ten Emerging Influential Bloggers of 2008.

Surprise!

First of all, I didn’t even know that there was such a contest. I’m completely clueless most of time, immersed as I am in my blogging and reruns of The Big Bang Theory. I did find it quite flattering (who am I kidding? I almost fainted with joy) and I sort of want to return the favor and nominate my own Top Ten.

And did I mention that you get the chance to win $100 by joining?

Ten lucky people who nominate their own top ten and post it on their blogs will win $100 in the blink of an eye. How cool is that? Of course it’s already cool to get your favorite blogs up there in the marquee, but $100 is more than enough motivation in itself.

Shameless plug alert: if you do find this blog interesting and quite helpful, you might want to include it in your top ten. Not forcing anyone, just sort of *ahem* batting my eyes at you in a lovely way. :)

So who can be nominated? All blogs created after July 1, 2007 qualify, regardless of location, nationality, etc. For more details, though, you might want to check out the motherlode.

Here then, without further shameless plugging, is my Top Ten Emerging Influential Bloggers for 2008. By the way, this is not in any particular order. I love all these sites equally:

  1. The Net Fool. From the way he writes and the confidence with which he delivers his message, you’d never think that this blogger is young, but he is. Tons of older bloggers can learn more than a few things from Jim.
  2. Eavesdrop Writer. My heart was in my throat as I perused Vienne’s archives. Thank God she started this blog exactly July of last year! I so want to nominate this blog, simply because the writing is fresh, it’s completely unique and always — always! — very interesting. It’s emotional without being too sappy, and Vienne has a sophisticated writing style that few can ever hope to attain.
  3. Chorva! You can call me a bit bias, but I really think this website has what it takes to be the next big thing in Philippine entertainment blogging. Unlike most entertainment blogs, Chorva focuses on the latest in Pinoy showbiz without wading into the murky world of gossip. Plus she uploads videos that she recorded herself — hot and fresh every single time.
  4. Ang Pinay Brodkaster, aka Lenggai. Writing completely in the vernacular, Lenggai does not succumb to the usual shock-and-awe tactics that some bloggers feel is the way to most Filipino readers’ hearts. Though still irreverent and occasionally catty, Lenggai is never tacky. Her writing’s always intelligent, witty and never boring.
  5. Blogging 4 Novice. This website is particularly helpful. I love how Apple covers a lot of different topics that are really helpful to bloggers both new and old. She always has fun stuff to talk about, and it’s never done in a very jargon-laden way.
  6. Plotdog Press. Home of WOOF. Need I say more?
  7. Indolent Indio. A recent discovery, thanks to Raket Scientist — my original choice — only he doesn’t fit the post-July 2007 bit. Fun and interesting commentary.
  8. GuitarTutee. I still can’t figure out why it’s called “Tutee” when they’re obviously the ones doing the tutoring, but what the hell. I love the site. I’m a frustrated guitarist, hence this choice.
  9. WP Theme Designer. She’s new and all, but her designs have been taking the problogging world by storm. Ad-ready and organized, this website has tons to offer when it comes to WordPress Themes.
  10. Miss Write. Yes, low and despicable, but I’m running out of nominees and I’m vain. Deal with it :)

That was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Took me half a day just to find ten (or 9, since number ten is a barefaced plug) blogs that I admire. If I unwittingly missed anyone, please chalk it up to (a) the rules of the contest or (b) the first sign of Alzheimer’s.

Anyway, if you do find time to do this (and happen to be interested in a hundred dollars), go ahead and post your own, but do check out the rules first.

XOXO,

    Hi Miss W.,

Thanks for the link and the nomination.

I haven’t told anyone this before, but I named our site GuitarTutee because of the following reasons(in order of importance):

    1) GuitarTutor.com is no longer available

    2) We designed it for our “tutees–” people who already know how to play but who need to see exactly how to play some songs.

    3) Tutee for some reason sounds really different, in a good way. One you’ll remember after visiting the site.

    Hehe. Happy weekend.
