Advanced Posting is Good for Your Blog

22 June 2008 4 Comments

Guess what. I wrote this yesterday, but I’m publishing it today.

I know it sounds stupid, but it’s something completely different and short of miraculous for someone like me. I’m almost always sick, as nearly everyone knows by now. Last week it was hyperacidity. This week — I don’t even want to explain. Anyway, stress over my day job and my freelance projects has led to quite a few days of unavoidable bed rest. That means I can’t even reach my Macbook. I have to stay put, head on pillow, hoping that God will finally recharge my batteries and get me going again.

The biggest problem I have with getting sick, though, is that I can’t post articles.

It’s crucial for any blogger to continuously churn out post after post. Content is king, as everyone online says. You have to keep giving readers something to read (something relevant, if I may add) or they’ll stray. So what do you do when you get too sick — or even too busy — to post?

Presenting, WordPress’s advanced posting option. Here’s what you do:

  1. Post like usual
  2. In the right panel, click the Edit hyperlink beside “Publish Immediately”
  3. Change the date and time to when you want the post to appear on your site
  4. Click the “Publish” button.
  5. Done!

Try it out. Write some posts in advance and get WP to publish them for you. Of course, you can never predict when you’ll get sick, but at least you’ll have posts ready to serve your waiting public. Never let your readers go hungry again.

XOXO,

The best thing about having posts ready in advance is that you can avoid churning them out. If you are just posting to fill up space it isn’t going to work. Your blog is flat and has nothing to say. On a day when you feel there is a lot to say, when you have ideas coming out of your ears, that is the day to write posts ahead. Don’t fall into just churning them out in order to have a post each day.

I guess posting every day is a lofty ideal, though it would be extremely good for traffic. I did mention that the posts still have to be relevant because otherwise, blogging is pointless.
One thing that’s significantly important to me as a blogger, though, is the sort-of kick in the ass to get moving. I’m not always in the mood to write, and that can go on for stretches of time. Long stretches of silence in a blog can be bad. I have to sort of motivate myself to post, so some days having advanced posts can be good.
