My first fiction “drop”! It’s a scene I keep getting in my head, so I’m finally writing it down! I’m not really cut out for novels and short stories; all I have are these vignettes. I still thought writing them down could be a good idea, so here goes. Check it out and let me know what you think, will you?

I’ve mentioned several times before that a good web host is crucial for us bloggers. I’ve seen several forums where people asking for advice on choosing a reliable and affordable web host are pushed towards free web hosting options. Some have even gone so far as to recommend free web hosts as the “best” possible option for bloggers when asked about web host rating issues.
True, as a new blogger, I also sought out the free web hosting options available online. I didn’t know if my pro-blogging efforts …

Apostrophe Now: How to Use It

Despite its seeming simplicity, a lot of people still can’t figure out how to use the apostrophe properly. You’ll be surprised how so many people still get mixed up when it comes to this simple punctuation mark. How many times have you seen someone type “salad green’s” instead of “salad greens”?
I know it seems confusing (though it most definitely isn’t), but using the apostrophe really shouldn’t be so difficult. Just remember these few important guidelines to using the apostrophe properly:
1. Apostrophes are used to show possession.

PepperJam Tools: Bringing Advertisers and Bloggers Closer

With PJN, however, it’s the President and CEO (Kris Jones) who actually responds to your email. Pardon the cussing, but no shit — it’s actually him. I have to say you can’t get any better than that. But you can. PJN has two tools that bloggers can use to maximize their affiliate marketing strategies. You don’t just follow whatever rules the affiliate program offers (of course you still have to go by their guidelines), you can actually talk to the company and propose your own plan for introducing and promoting their products or services.

The US dollar, despite the recent economic speed bumps, remains one of the most powerful currencies in the world.
You might remember that scene from “Eurotrip” where the protagonists live like kings in a god-forsaken country with nothing more than a few pennies. That’s an exaggeration, obviously, yet still quite true. In the Philippines where I live, a single dollar could get you approximately 44 pesos, which isn’t shabby at all. The British pound earns around 85 pesos.
But what am I doing discussing currency in a writing website?
The …

I know it’s supposed to be the easiest thing in the world to use the past tense of verbs, but I’ve seen a few examples that remind me it isn’t. A lot of people still tend to make mistakes when using the past tense form of some verbs, especially the irregular ones.
And I’m not even referring to the other, more complicated versions of the past tense form. I’ve actually come across people having difficulties with simple past tense.
Why is it important to learn the proper way of using …

[This is the 3rd installment of a series. Click here to view Part I and Part II]
In Part II of this series, I discussed the thesis statement as the core of a term paper. This is the central thought upon which you anchor everything else. Now that you know how to form a thesis statement, you can proceed to fleshing out your paper’s skeleton.
The introduction is, of course, the first part of your paper. Please do not make the mistake of writing the words “introduction” as …

Certainly one of the most overused punctuation marks on the internet, a lot of bloggers and forum participants tend to use the ellipsis to show transition from one thought to another. Whereas the correct mark to use is the period or a comma, the punctuation mark of choice of most netizens is still the ellipsis. I must admit that there is a certain allure to the ellipsis. It exudes mystery and signals the unknown. The ellipsis is the harbinger of surprise — there is almost always …
